Some things I wish I had learned earlier on in life
1. Don’t let short-term desires make you lose sight of long-term goals. Always have a long-term goal in mind and remind yourself of what needs to be done to get there. Going out with friends or doing something fun may seem like the most important thing at the moment, but these things should never come before something as important as studying. Sure there’s always that idea that nights of studying don’t make the best memories, but if you choose to abandon study habits you’ll look back on your life and think of all the times you should’ve studied for tests. You’ll regret having sacrificed your long-term goals for something as insignificant as a hangout.
2. Never allow boys to get in the way of your education. If you’re spending time talking to a boy instead of doing homework or studying for a test, you really need to set your priorities straight. No boy is important enough for you to compromise your education and future success.
3. Family is always more important than friends are. Always. Your family are the only people who truly always have your best interests at heart. They love you unconditionally and provide you with more care and compassion than any friend could ever show you.
4. Parents may seem like they’re constantly nagging, but rather than complaining about how over-bearing they are, take the time to think about why they’re being that way. Most of the time their motivations and reasons for being annoying are reasonable and sensible. I look back and think, “If I had listened to my parents that one time, I’d be so much better off right now.”
5. It’s always best to kill people with kindness. Being mean and lashing out never leads to any positive results, and you’ll regret wasting your energy being angry all the time. Besides, it never feels very great to say or do mean things to people.
6. Don’t take the easy way out, especially when it comes to school. Learning and being in a classroom may not be the most exciting things in the world, but education is one of the most important things that everyone needs. Knowledge and intelligence will open up an entirely new realm for you to explore.
7. Focus on your strengths, and you should only think of your weaknesses in the context of how to improve them and turn them into strengths. Constantly over-analyzing and over-thinking the negatives in your life won’t have any beneficial effect. It’s better to reflect on the good and work to make more of that happen.
